Notes: Quiquei"s Flight to Freedom as written by his Foster Mom. Quiquei is quite a unique Boxer, he came to Coastal Boxer Rescue as a survivor of hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico last year. Quique was once in a loving home where he was treated as a member of the family, then the hurricane hit and he found himself a homeless stray. Being a smart boy he scavenged for food and shelter but due to island circumstances was abused and chased away by people. Then the worst happened he was hit by a car and his hip was broken. The condition he was found in was horrible and it tooks several months of tracking before some kind people in Puerto Rico was able to trap him and transport to our Rescue. He came to us worn from many battles, beatings and fights. He looks great now but if you see pictures of the condition he came to us in it would make you cry. After several months in our care he had recovered from the abuse, lime disease, gained weight and was ready for hip surgery. Once his hip was repaired he went to a foster home and had time to heal, both physically and mentally. Quique suffered mentally from his abuse from people and had to regain trust in people again. He accomplished much with his first foster. Quique came to me, his second foster, nearly a month ago. His distrust was obvious and I used caution while he was getting acquainted with my home and my female dog. During this time he was cautious but after a short time his loving personality and spirit became apparent. Slowly he learned that a halter was okay to wear, that pulling was not allowed and he had nothing to fear. Now he is a playful, sweet, loving boy...a typical clownish boxer. He is anxious to walk, plays by himself throwing and tossing toys but the sweetest thing is how he appreciated being tucked into his bed and covered with his blanket. Quique is housebroken, crate trained and anxious to please his human. If any of QuiQue''s story touches your heart I hope you will consider his history, strength to overcome adversity and his ability to love again and ask to meet him. In my experience as his foster you would be repaid 10 fold with his trust and love. He just requires your patience so this wonderful and loving Boxer can be what he is meant to be.
